Our Land
Elderberry owns two 10-acre parcels of land in Rougemont, North Carolina, just north of Durham in the north central portion of the state. Our active community of 18 private, energy-efficient, universally-designed townhomes is situated on ten acres of a lovely old farmstead with numerous outbuildings and our Common House.
The other parcel, owned jointly with adjacent Potluck Community Farm, is reachable by trail and provides secluded and beautiful views.
At Elderberry we fully realize and appreciate that this land was once the territory of the historical Saponi people and their Sappony descendants, as well as other tribes who were the first to cherish the forests and streams we enjoy.
We acknowledge and attempt to understand the suffering caused by colonization that results in our being here on this land. We commit ourselves to loving and thoughtfully caring for this land as it was cared for by the people who were here for hundreds of years before we came.

Elderberry is for folks who want to live in the country, with the advantages of a close community and opportunities to play, eat and work together.
The view from homes is distinctly rural — rolling hills and fields, pastures and gardens, woodlands with hundred-year-old trees, barns and farmhouse, wildlife, spectacular sunsets and a starry night sky unaffected by city lights.
We love to work with our land and take care of this beautiful place we call home.
On the other hand, we are only 30 minutes from many wonderful cultural and recreational activities in Durham, with more attractions in the “Triangle” of Raleigh and Chapel Hill. North Carolina’s mountains and seashore are only a half-day drive west or east.
